Product details

Nyjlo Organic Ceylon Cinnamon Powder is the ground bark of Cinnamomum verum — the tree that true cinnamon is named after. It arrives as a fine, pale-brown powder with a warm, rounded sweetness and almost none of the sharp heat you get from cassia, which is what fills most supermarket jars.

  • Format: 200 g resealable pouch
  • Form: finely ground powder
  • Type: Ceylon cinnamon, Cinnamomum verum
  • On the pack: organic, non-GMO, gluten free, no additives, lab tested, high potency
  • Best for: coffee and tea, breakfast bowls, baking, roast vegetables

Because the aroma is strong, a quarter teaspoon does the work of a heaped spoon of tired supermarket powder. For a household that puts cinnamon in coffee most mornings and bakes at weekends, one pouch covers roughly a month to six weeks of regular use.

Ingredients

Organic ground Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum).

That is the complete list. No anti-caking agent, no flour or starch filler, no cassia blended in to stretch the weight, and no flavouring. The pack is declared gluten free and non-GMO, and each batch is lab tested before it is sealed.

How to use

In coffee and espresso drinks. Stir about ¼ teaspoon through the grounds before brewing, or whisk ⅛–¼ teaspoon into warm milk before pouring it over your shot. Through the grounds gives a rounder, infused flavour; through the milk keeps it brighter and sweeter.

In tea and hot chocolate. Steep ¼ teaspoon alongside the leaves, or whisk it into cocoa while the milk heats. Give it two to three minutes in the liquid so it hydrates properly instead of floating on top.

In porridge and oatmeal. Stir ½ teaspoon into the pot for two servings during the last minute of cooking, so the warmth runs through the whole bowl rather than sitting on the surface.

In yogurt and smoothies. Mix ¼ teaspoon per cup with a spoonful of honey or maple syrup first, then fold that through. Pre-blending is what stops ground spice clumping in something cold. In a blender it can go straight in.

In baking. Whisk 1–2 teaspoons into your dry ingredients for a standard loaf, a tray of buns or a batch of cookies. Because Ceylon is milder than cassia you can push slightly past what a recipe asks for without it turning hot — but start at the lower end, since this powder is potent.

In savoury cooking. Half a teaspoon lifts roasted sweet potato, carrots or squash. A pinch rounds out tomato-based stews, rice dishes, chickpeas and slow-cooked lamb.

Taste as you go and adjust to your own palate. These are flavour suggestions for cooking — nothing here is a dose or a health instruction.

Storage

Press the pouch closed after each use and keep it in a cool, dry cupboard, out of direct sunlight and away from the heat of the hob or oven.

Ground cinnamon fades rather than spoils — it loses aroma to air, warmth and light — so a tight seal on a cool shelf is what keeps it expressive. If you decant it, choose a small airtight jar rather than a large one: less trapped air means more smell stays in the powder. Always use a dry spoon, since moisture is what makes ground spice clump.

When the aroma on opening has gone faint, that is your signal to replace it — not a date on a label.

Things to know about Nyjlo Ceylon cinnamon

Mild, naturally sweet

Warm and rounded rather than sharp, so it flavours a drink or a dish without taking it over.

Organic ground Ceylon cinnamon in a small dish with cinnamon quills

Finely ground, high potency

Hydrates into hot liquid and folds into batter without grit, and a quarter teaspoon is usually enough.

No additives, lab tested

One ingredient in the pouch, and every batch tested before it is sealed.

Sweet and savoury

At home in coffee and cinnamon buns, and just as good on roasted squash or through a chickpea stew.

Questions people ask

What makes Ceylon cinnamon different from the cinnamon in most jars?

Most ground cinnamon on a supermarket shelf is cassia — a related but different bark. Cassia is darker, hotter and hits the front of your palate hard. Ceylon, Cinnamomum verum, is paler, softer and sweeter, with a more layered warmth that sits behind a flavour instead of covering it. If you have only ever cooked with cassia, the first thing you tend to notice about Ceylon is how much less it burns.

How much should I use?

Start with about ¼ teaspoon in a drink and ½ teaspoon in a pot of porridge for two, then adjust to taste. This powder is potent, so begin at the low end. For baking, 1–2 teaspoons across a standard loaf or batch of cookies is a sound starting point — and because Ceylon is milder than cassia you can push a little past what a cassia recipe asks for without it tipping into heat.

Does it dissolve properly in coffee and hot drinks?

It is ground fine, so it hydrates quickly and blends smoothly once it has a moment in hot liquid. Whisking it into warm milk, or stirring it in and waiting two to three minutes, works far better than dusting it over a finished cup — any ground spice will simply float if it is added at the very end. For iced drinks, hydrate it in a tablespoon of warm liquid first.

Can I use it in recipes that just say “ground cinnamon”?

Yes. It goes into dough, batter and fillings exactly as any ground cinnamon would. Whisk it through your dry ingredients rather than stirring it into the wet ones, so it distributes evenly instead of streaking.

Is it organic, gluten free and non-GMO?

Those are the declarations carried on the pouch: organic, non-GMO, gluten free, no additives, lab tested and high potency. The pouch holds ground Ceylon cinnamon and nothing else — no anti-caking agent, no filler, no flavouring.

What does “lab tested” mean here?

It means a batch is tested before it is packed rather than after it ships, so what reaches your kitchen has already been checked. If you need the specific testing documentation for a batch, contact us and we will point you to it rather than summarise it here.

How should I store it, and how long does it keep?

Press the pouch shut and keep it cool, dark and dry. Ground spice fades rather than spoils: it loses aroma to air, warmth and light. Stored properly and used regularly, a 200 g pouch stays expressive across the time a normal household takes to work through it. When the smell on opening has gone faint, that is your signal.

How long does 200 g actually last?

Roughly a month to six weeks for a household that puts cinnamon in coffee most mornings and bakes at weekends. At ¼ teaspoon per cup that is a lot of mornings — and because the aroma is strong, you will usually find yourself using less than you did with supermarket powder.

Is this only for sweet cooking?

No — and that is where most people under-use it. Half a teaspoon with oil and salt before roasting transforms sweet potato, carrots and squash. A pinch rounds out tomato-based stews, rice dishes, chickpeas and slow-cooked lamb. The mildness of Ceylon is exactly what lets it work on the savoury side.

How long will delivery take?

Delivery options, costs and timings are calculated for your own address at checkout, and your confirmation email follows as soon as the order is placed. We would rather show you the real figures for where you live than a generic promise here.

Serves 1

You need

  • 1 shot espresso, or 120 ml strong brewed coffee
  • 180 ml milk of your choice
  • ¼ tsp Nyjlo organic Ceylon cinnamon
  • 1 tsp maple syrup or honey, optional

Method

  • Warm the milk in a small pan until it steams, without letting it boil.
  • Whisk the cinnamon and the syrup into the warm milk and keep whisking for about 30 seconds, until no powder is sitting on the surface.
  • Pour the espresso into your glass, then pour the cinnamon milk over it in a slow stream.
  • Finish with a very light dusting of cinnamon if you like. Drink while it is hot — the aroma is at its best in the first minute.

Iced version: whisk the cinnamon into 2 tablespoons of warm milk first so it hydrates, then top with cold milk and ice.

Cinnamon Swirl Weekend Loaf

Makes 1 loaf · About 25 minutes of work, plus proving

Dough

  • 400 g strong white flour
  • 7 g instant yeast
  • 45 g sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 220 ml milk, warmed to just above body temperature
  • 1 egg
  • 50 g soft butter

Swirl

  • 2 tsp Nyjlo organic Ceylon cinnamon
  • 70 g soft brown sugar
  • 25 g soft butter

Method

  • Mix the flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Add the milk and egg and bring it together, then knead in the butter a little at a time until the dough is smooth and springy, about 8–10 minutes.
  • Cover and leave somewhere warm until roughly doubled, about an hour.
  • Stir the swirl ingredients into a spreadable paste. Roll the dough out to a rectangle about 25 × 35 cm and spread the paste over it, leaving a clean 1 cm border along one long edge.
  • Roll it up from the opposite long edge, seal the seam and settle it into a lined 900 g loaf tin, seam down.
  • Cover and prove for 45–60 minutes, until it rises about 2 cm above the rim.
  • Bake at 180°C fan / 200°C conventional for 30–35 minutes, until deeply golden and hollow-sounding underneath. Cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then on a rack.

The swirl stays distinct because Ceylon cinnamon is mild — it reads as warmth running through the crumb rather than a hot stripe.

Roasted sweet potato wedges on a baking tray
SavourySide35 minutes

Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Cinnamon and Sea Salt

Proof that cinnamon belongs on the dinner table, not only in dessert.

See the recipe

Serves 4 as a side

You need

  • 900 g sweet potatoes, scrubbed and cut into 3 cm wedges
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp Nyjlo organic Ceylon cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp flaky sea salt
  • A squeeze of lime and a handful of coriander, to finish

Method

  • Heat the oven to 200°C fan / 220°C conventional.
  • Toss the wedges with the oil, cinnamon and pepper until every piece is coated. Hold the salt back for now — salting early draws out water and softens the edges.
  • Spread them in a single layer with space between them. A crowded tray steams instead of roasting.
  • Roast 20 minutes, turn, then roast another 10–15 minutes until the edges are dark and caramelised.
  • Scatter with the sea salt straight out of the oven, then finish with lime and coriander.

The cinnamon reads as savoury warmth here rather than sweetness, and it holds up beside roast chicken, lamb or a bowl of black beans.
